Calling all artists:
Can you define the ART of SUSTAINABILITY?
As our cities swell and resources disappear, the pressure is on to find ways to create Sustainable Urban Environments but what part can contemporary art play in this most contemporary of societal issues?
A unique competition has been created to showcase the cutting edge research of the Sustainable Urban Environments (SUE) project and in the process explore the ART of SUSTAINABILITY.
THE COMPETITION
The hunt is on to commission several pieces of public art that encapsulate the motivations, pressures and barriers to creating Sustainable Urban Environments, using the research conducted by the SUE programme as inspiration. The work may be represented as a fixed installation, film, play, or other medium, and is expected to withstand public display for a year.
Artists are invited to submit a concept and brief description of their idea by 31st August 2009 to Dr. Heather Cruickshank. The proposal may draw inspiration from one or all of the elements of SUE research, which can be accessed through this website. Entries must be submitted in Word or PDF form, will be no more than 500 words, and may include up to 3 pages of images.
THE PRIZE
Entries will be judged by a panel of experts with winners receiving ¡ê2,000 to create their work. The winning pieces will be on public display in the UK throughout 2010.
The competition is run by The ISSUES Project, a group set up specifically to disseminate SUE research.
